A DOT 39 cylinder is a non-refillable seamless, welded, or brazed cylinder with a service pressure not to exceed 80 percent of the test pressure. The maximum capacity of the cylinder may not exceed 1526 cubic inches. Gayston manufactures thin walled aluminum DOT 39 disposable cylinders and precision welds the valve to the top of the cylinder. These cylinders must not exceed 500 PSI under the DOT 39 specification for aluminum cylinders; however, they are popular for various low pressure applications because of their low material cost and very light weight.
